Weight in

A pound lost. I was a little bit disappointed, just because I wanted to compensate last week gain, but well, I'm on track again, even after a week that looked more like a roller coaster in many ways.

I have not much more to say, as I'm a little bit moody with my personal life right now.

Tomorrow will be a better day...

bad day

The majority of days I feel wonderful about dieting and Slimming World. It is definitely the best diet ever, we do eat a lot, people do get surprised about how much we eat while loosing weight, we feel full and happy.

Still, there are these days… I don’t know if it is when I’m tired or upset. Some days, I just eat and eat and eat and still feel there's something missing.

Yesterday was one of those days.

I left work a little bit later than usual, so I had a mug shot before leaving. I then had my dinner, a very Mediterranean dish with Prawns and rice and a 6 syns tablespoon of olive oil. I had it before and it is Normally a very feeling and super speed dish.

Normally, I give a while between having my main and my dessert (big bowl of fruit with my tablespoon of Nutella). Yesterday I had to have it straight away. I was still angry. I felt OK for a while but then, there it was again, that feeling that something was missing. I had another mug shot and I still wasn’t feeling satisfied. On those days, normally, I know that something really synfull will do the trick. Thank God I got rid of all of that and there is nothing else in my house other than yogurts and other low syns snacks.

I was able to keep myself disciplined and just went to bed, but it is not always like this, sometimes I just get terrible away of the plan

Do you also feel the same? Do you have any strategies to overcome it?

Spinach and ricotta canneloni

I don't do this recipe many often for two reasons. First, I always do a huge mess filling the cannelonis tubs, second, it's not that low on syns.

I normally do it when I'm really sick of my day-to-day food or when I have someone for dinner. Actually, I finally found something, both, me and my mother, enjoy. We never agree on food. Thank God she was never the one who cooked back at home. My hips and scale thank my father, though.

I got this recipe from forum iVillage. For some reason, I'm not able to copy and paste the recipe, so I will just leave the link and the pictures of my trial.

My new dessert

I'm completely addicted to Nutella. Before joining slimming world, I would eat it everyday, straight from the jar, while watching TV. I know the majority of people think it's disgusting to eat it like this. For those, I only have one thing to say, try it, and then let me know.

1 tablespoon of Nutella is 4 syns. I used to save all my syns to have two tablespoon as a dessert, but it just didn't feel enough.

While I was looking for low syn snacks I saw that you could dip strawberries in melted chocolate, at 1 syn each, that's when it ocurred to me.

So, now, my new dessert is chopped strawberries and a banana mixed with 1 spoon of Nutella. It does the trick. It's absolutelly delicious. 4 syns.

I wanted to take a picture (it tastes better than it looks), but I was so excited about this delicious creation of mine, that I completely forgot and just ate it before I could remember. I will try to remember next time.

What about you? What are your favorite low syns desserts or snacks?

Ups and downs

Today was weight in day. At first, I thought i wouldn't blog about it, giving the excuse that this blog was about positives things. But this blog is about dieting and dieting has it's ups and downs. It is hard. Even when you can have so much free food.

So I had a gain. To be honest I was already expecting it. Even thought about not going to the group meeting. Changed my mind, after all, that's what I am there for, support. The gain was higher than what I was expecting. I thought about leaving. But again, I wanted to ear how good other members are doing, they tips and tricks, get motivation from somewhere.

I had a terrible week, I was sick, I had a reaction to the antibiotic and I had a reality call regarding being on my own on a foreign country. I hid all those emotions on food and, then, they all hit me when the consultant asked everyone to a big cheer for me being so brave for staying until the end after a big gain. I got emotional. I almost burst into tears (I actually did, but I'm still hoping no one noticed). I was so ashamed, I wanted to dig a hole and hide inside.

Anyway, I could keep bloging about all the problems, the emotions and make you guys feel sorry for me and, worst of it, I could keep feeling sorry for myself. And keep eating. I'm sure whoever is in this weight battle can relate to that. That's not my objective. I set a new goal for this week, feel proud of myself. Next week, I will beat that scale. To a fresh start (and I raise my tea mug while writing it). I can do it.

More body magic

I have just signed up to the Boyne 10k run. Well, don't get too excited, I'll be walking, not running. Still... It's 10k, sounds a lot. And, meanwhile, I'll have some training sessions to try to do it at the best time possible.
Who would say, me signing up for a run? Life does transform you.
I was also thinking about doing another 5 k run, as preparation, but this one will take place on the 18th of March, right after Saint Patrick's day. That would mean no drinking. Hmmm, i feel that being in Ireland and don't have a drink at St. Patricks is
Ike being in Rome without seeing the Pope. I think I'll skip that one.
The 10k will be. Wanna join me?

Huevos rotos - a spanish recipe

I used to this recipe whenever I was hung hover. I still do it, but now I do it in slimming world friendly way.

I know it looks a little bit weird, but, I guess, for me, that makes it look more indulgent. It's very easy to do.

Normally, I start by doing SW syn free chips seasoned with salt and pepper. I cover it with a slice of low low mature cheddar, a fried egg, yolk almost raw and I just cut and stir everything. It is delicious.

This is only 3 syns, due to the cheese slide.

If you want, you can add bacon, all fat trimed or ham. In Spain it's normally done with choriza or Serrano ham. I prefer to save the syns, myself, as it does look quite naughty already.

I hope you enjoy.

Body Magic

I decided to start my body magic slowly. I know myself. I hate exercise. I know if I push it to hard, I'll give up in two days. So, this time, I decided to, step by step, start introducing new habits.

I'm walking to work everyday. I got good hats and good gloves, so no excuses. It doesn't matter if it's raining.

I've also changed my dog's routine. Before, we would go outside, and once she was done, off we go, back home. Now we are doing a 40 minutes walk. I have a feeling I will not be the only one loosing weight.

Tomorrow, I'm starting to do the stairs in my office. Two floors, doesn't sound that hard, does it?

How are you increasing your body magic?

Cinema goodies

There's an universal, no matter if you are portuguese, irish, or chinese, we all like to have our goodies while watching a movie.

When I started SW, this one was a hard for me. I was avoiding it, so I wouldn't succumb to temptation.

Even watching TV on a Sunday was kind of a problem.

I went to my new bible, the SW book and got a few ideas. Some of them free, some not. And I take all of them with me.

So, to nibble on the cinema without envying the popcorn crunch heard around me, i normally bring some grapes, some pomegranate (super-free), olives (I couldn't believe, when I found out that 8 olives are only 1 syn, so I normally take 16 with me, having 2 syns on a row) and, finally, my favorite one, a package of Snack-a-jack (sometimes I take the caramel one, sometimes the sour cream and chives one).

That said, a trip to the cinema normally costs me around 7 syns, but they are well worth it.

What do you normally nibble on the cinema?

Houston, we have a problem

Image from the internet

As I said, in my previous post, the food in Portugal, can be quite different than the one sold in Ireland. For a while already, I was willing to do the creamy ham risotto recipe, in Slimming World website, but I couldn't find primula cheese anywhere.

On our last group meeting, our consultant told us about the risotto she had made for Valentine's using Low Low spread cheese. It sounded so yammy, I decided to try. Big mistake. Had never try Low Low spread cheese before. I loved it. I tried for the first time in Sunday and after that, I had it already with my toasts in the morning, with pasta, with rice, you name it.

It is a low syn cheese, but, as evrything in life, except free and superfree food, it reuires moderation. Two packages in two days will not help my weight in next Thursday.

First things first

First of all I want to explain who I am.

I'm a portuguese girl (can we still say girl at age 32?) who came to Ireland two years a go.

One of the many challenges of a move from Portugal to Ireland is food. Don't take me wrong, I love irish food, the chips with everything, the fish and chips, the bangers with mash, the burgers, the rashers, the coleslaw, oh my God, the coleslaw. Actually, that's the problem, I like it too much.

In my integration to this country, while I was trying to cope with the weather, the 300 different accents, the driving on the left hand side, I was happily enjoying my food. 22 pounds in a year, that was the result.

I had to do something. I had to learn the tricks of this island food the way I do the mediterranean style we have in Portugal.

I tried many things. I tried using my portuguese tricks, which didn't work as we can't find the same things and brands here. I saw an add on TV, and tried this diet which is based on the principle that we shouldn't eat carbs. Not only I wasn't having my favorite thing in the world, pasta, as I was having terrible headaches at the end of the day. I missed my carbs terribly.

That's when someone at the office told me about Slimming World. It just sounded to good to be truth. I decided to give it a go, last June, as an online member. I lost 11 pounds in three months, while having all the pasta I could get.

I stopped for some stupid reason, regain a few pounds and finally decided to join a group.

This is my fourth week. So far, I've lost 2.5 pounds. I'm delighted that I got back on track again, but, to be honest, I think I could do better.

I decided that blog it about my journey might give the boost I need on my motivation. Writing is something I love, so maybe, it will make me more disciplined. I have never tried to write in English. I'm considering this blog as two birds killed with one stone, improve my SW journey while improving my english.

Please accept my apologies for any grammatical or orthographic error and, please please please, correct me if needed.

Of we go.
